Implications of Resistance

A study underscored the importance of achieving CCyR in 12 months for patients with early chronic phase CML

Failure to achieve at least a partial cytogenetic response by 12 months is a key prognostic factor. When failure occurs, the probability of obtaining a complete cytogenetic response at 2 years is <20%. 7

Cytogenetic Response

Patients who had achieved CCyR at 12 months had better OS and also better PFS than those who had not (96% vs 74%, respectively).
OS=Overall survival; PFS=Progression-free survival.

Level of Molecular Response was also found to be an important dynamic factor of prognosis.7

  • Major Molecular Response at 12 months is indicative of better event-free survival and progression-free survival (PFS)
  • Transcript levels after 1-2 months of treatment predicts a late response
  • Low levels of residual disease are associated with continuous remission
When failure or suboptimal response occurs, a different approach to treatment is recommended.4,7
